Message from the Director

The mission of the Occupational and Industrial Orthopaedic Center (OIOC) is to provide care, research, education and consultation to prevent work related musculoskeletal disorders and to prevent disability related to these disorders.

The OIOC serves the working community at large, including patients, organizations, unions, academia and many others.

This mission began in 1983 when Dr. Victor H. Frankel and I founded OIOC. At the time, as it still is now, the ability to work is one of society's fundamental rights. There should be work for all, and this work should be made to be as safe as possible.

Technology, medicine and the environment are constantly changing and so is OIOC evolving to better serve the individual, the organization and the community in order to prevent cumulative trauma disorders, low back pain, lower extremity pain and musculoskeletal disorders in general that arise from work or from the work environment.

All of OIOC's programs are based on research outcomes and facts.

The OIOC is constantly looking for new and better ways to prevent work-related musculoskeletal disorders and disability. For that we need both specialized knowledge about work and the work environment. The OIOC has established a national and international network to create these solutions. To better serve or clients and our patients, we create specialized teams to meet your exclusive concerns and issues.

OIOC's unique feature is its multidisciplanrity with a dedicated staff representing physicians, physical therapists, psychologists, biomechanicians, ergonomists, engineers, epidemiologists and a well-trained support staff.

With today's knowledge, OIOC can help identify and evaluate the concerns, issues and problems, and propose and implement solutions for the employee and the organization. The OIOC offers training, be it individual patient training, continuing education courses in-house lectures or graduate programs.

It is this continuum and transfer of knowledge that supports the uniqueness of OIOC.

Musculoskeletal injuries or disorders at work represent one-third of all work disorders reported. Please contact us so we can serve you in the prevention of occurrence, recurrence and/or disability for you and your organization.

Sincerely

Margareta Nordin, Dr. Sci., PT, CIE.
