Junior High School Students Learn About Occupational Safety

Two ergonomists from the OIOC, Shira Schecter-Weiner PT, MA, CIE and David Goldsheyder, MA, CIE, conducted three one-hour lectures, addressing over 100 students at the Student Center at Harry Van Arsdale Junior High School in Brooklyn.

Ms. Schecter-Weiner and Mr. Goldsheyder provided the students with practical solutions and applications of how to deal the health and safety issues. They demonstrated the use of ergonomic handles, anti-vibration gloves, grips and lifting holsters.

"The wonderful examples and data caused the students to become extremely interested and ask many personal questions," stated Mr. Gary Pfaeffle, the Building Trade Coordinator at the school.

The students who attended these lectures are in pre-trade programs. The OIOC believes that the sooner individuals learn about work-related safety and health issues the more likely these individuals will be aware of health and safety issues at work thus decreasing the risk of injury.

The OIOC is committed to the health and safety of all workers, regardless of the age or position.
