PHYSICAL THERAPY

The OIOC clinic provides rehabilitation services for a variety of musculoskeletal ailments, with a focused expertise in spine treatment and work-related injuries and disorders. As a result of more than 10 years of clinical research conducted on back pain and its determinants, the OIOC has highly successful outcomes and enjoys an excellent reputation for its treatment of back pain.

With this expertise, the OIOC offers the public the following programs:

All treatment programs are individually designed to meet the patient's and the clinician's goals and expectations. To maximize the effectiveness and appropriateness, all treatment programs are based on individual evaluations performed by one or more of the following: a physician and/or physiatrist, a physical therapist, a psychologist, and/or ergonomist.

Individuals are seen individually and/or in groups, depending upon the needs of the patient, with sessions running from 45 minutes to one hour. Treatment progresses on the basis of functional goals established in collaboration with the individual. The overall goal is to rehabilitate the individual into his/her previous functional capabilities and/or to return the individual to work or a work-ready status.

The OIOC provides active physical therapy, focusing on:

  • functional performance
  • aerobic conditioning and musculoskeletal fitness
  • pain control
  • education
  • ergonomic awareness
  • work conditioning
All treatment programs are individually designed to meet the patients and the therapists goals and expectations, and are based on individual evaluations performed by a physician and a physical therapist. If a patient requires additional evaluations, a psychologist and/or an ergonomist may also conduct individual evaluations that will be used in the design of an appropriate and effective treatment program. Patients are seen individually and/or in groups, depending upon the needs of the patient, with sessions running from 45 minutes to one hour. Treatment progresses on the basis of functional goals established in collaboration with the patient. The overall goal is to return the individual to work or a work-ready status.

When necessary, patients are referred for diagnostic or specialist consultations. These referrals are made within the Hospital for Joint Diseases Orthopaedic Institute, a campus of NYU Medical  Center. The OIOC's network of specialists consists of physicians who have a particular interest in occupational injuries and the prevention of chronicity, spine conditions, orthopaedics, rheumatology, neurology, pain management and more. With these resources, the OIOC conveniently facilitates recovery.
