Phase One:
1.
Education at the primary care facility:
The OIOC assists the company enrolling in this program to form an advisory group that will guide the
OIOC in customizing the training program to satisfy their particular needs. This collaborative effort,
called LMAC (Labor, Management, and Academic Collaboration), is crucial to the success of the Model Clinic.
The primary function of the LMAC-advisory group is to overcome any obstacles to providing state-of-the-art
care to injured employees.
Participants at the primary care facility include physicians, nurses, and can involve staff members from
Systems Safety, Human Resources, and others. The educational program for the primary health care staff is
a 16-hour theoretical and practical presentation about injury prevention, epidemiology, psychosocial factors,
lifestyle, ergonomics, symptomatology, differential diagnosis, and early care of individuals with low back
pain. The educational program for systems safety personnel focuses on work-related ergonomics with some
general information about psychosocial risk factors. Emphasis is placed upon overcoming any hurdles to
providing care of excellence.
