Full Spectrum of Ergonomics: from theory to practice When January 16-18, 2003 Location Hospital for Joint Diseases Orthopaedic Institute 301 East 17th Street New York, NY 10003 Participants will gain an understanding of the basic theoretical concepts, principles and techniques of ergonomics as well as an introduction to fundamental ergonomic measurement tools for assessment of physical workload, posture, occupational exposure, and stress. This course introduces important aspects of the early prevention of work-related MSDs, as well as medical management and rehabilitation of injured workers. The effects of worker education and injury prevention programs will be also presented and discussed. Interactive workshops on selected ergonomic topics will complement the lectures. Ample time for discussion is allocated. This intensive, multidisciplinary course is designed for professionals in the field of ergonomics as well as for those with a limited background in ergonomics who are seeking advanced knowledge. This course will also benefit occupational safety managers, industrial designers, risk managers, insurance consultants, physical and occupational therapists, occupational medicine physicians and nurses, quality control managers, human resources managers, vocational counselors, and lawyers. It is preferable that course participants have some basic ergonomic knowledge. At the end of this three-day course, participants will be given the opportunity to take a two-hour written examination given by Oxford Research Institute (ORI) that may be applied towards obtaining the Certified Industrial Ergonomist (CIE) designation.
