Back Pain and Disability - Unraveling the Puzzle

At the end of the year 2000, the OIOC, in collaboration with the Physical Medicine Research Foundation, held a 2-day Pre-Conference and a 3-day International Conference "Back Pain and Disability - Unraveling the Puzzle." The Pre-Conference and the International Conference brought together approximately 360 professionals from around the world to explore the complex medical, legal and economic issues surrounding back pain and disability.

The pre-conference was held in the Loeb Auditorium at the Hospital for Joint Diseases Orthopaedic Institute on November 28 and 29, 2000, with 74 medical professionals attending both days. The first day of was designed to provide an update on contemporary clinical and administrative issues in medical disability management. The second day introduced participants to a multidisciplinary treatment approach to acute and subacute occupational low back pain.

The International Conference was held in the Farkas Auditorium at the New York University Medical Center on November 30 to December 2, 2000 with 239 professionals from 19 countries attending. There were 30 posters available for participant viewing and discussion. Poster topics included Epidemiology - Predictors of Disability, Epidemiology - General, Diagnosis and Treatment - General, Return to Work - General, and Instruments: Reliability and Validity - General.
