Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How will my gift be used?
A: If your gift is unrestricted, you allow the OIOC to allocate your contribution to where it is most needed to ensure our ability to continue to conduct research and provide educational opportunities, both of which are designed to prevent disability that results from work-related injuries. You may also choose to designate your gift to a specific need of the OIOC that is listed in Giving Opportunities.

Q: What are the different ways I can make a gift?
A: Gifts can be made by check, money order, or the transfer of stock. In addition, there are many planned giving opportunities that have the potential to provide income to you and your beneficiaries.

Q: How do I make a gift in memory of or in honor of a friend or loved one?
A: To make a memorial or tribute gift, please complete the Charitable Contributions/Donation Form and mail or fax it to the OIOC Victor H. Frankel Occupational Orthopaedic Fund. When the gift is received, special notification will be sent to the person or family you have indicated on the form. The amount of the donation will not be revealed. You will also receive an acknowledgment for your gift.

Q: Is my gift tax-deductible?
A: As a division of the Hospital for Joint Diseases Orthopedic Institute (HJD), the OIOC is a non-profit organization covered under the HJD's 501(c)3 tax exempt public charity status as defined by the Internal Revenue Service. However, as tax benefits of making a gift can vary, it is important that you contact your financial and legal consultants to obtain specific information or you may contact us at
(212) 255-6690.

Q: How will I be recognized for my gift?
A: All donors receive a letter of thanks and all donors who have contributed a total of $100 or more in a calendar year will be listed in the Hospital for Joint Diseases Annual Report. Naming opportunities at varying levels exist at the OIOC and offer prominent recognition. To learn more, please contact us at (212) 255-6690.

Q: Is there a minimum contribution that you will accept?
A: The OIOC accepts charitable contributions and donations of any size. Given the Center's reliance on external funding to support its research and educational services, every gift makes a significant impact on our ability to continue to provide these services.

Q: What are the OIOC's highest funding priorities?
A: The OIOC's funding priorities are equally allocated to all of the areas identified in the Giving Opportunities section. However, the Center must obtain new facilities in New York City near the Union Square area. Consequently, the OIOC Endowment and Capital Fund hold a key priority position in order to ensure that the OIOC maintains its leadership in providing world-class research, patient care, consulting, and education services, with the aim of preventing disability resulting from work-related injuries.
