Making a Gift

Gifts can be made for unrestricted use or designated for a specific purpose within the Occupational and Industrial Orthopaedic Center (OIOC) of the Hospital for Joint Diseases. Unrestricted gifts enable the institution to direct funds to where they can make the greatest impact.

Outright Gifts
Outright gifts at any level provide essential support for OIOC's research and education programs.

To make a gift to the OIOC, please print out the Charitable Contribution/Donation Form and mail the completed form and the gift to the OIOC.

Planned Gifts
Planned gifts benefit donors and their families by helping to retain or receive income in addition to providing assets to the OIOC. The OIOC suggests that you consult your legal and financial advisers before considering a planned giving contract. We will assist you in every way to achieve your purpose in arranging a gift or bequest to the OIOC.

Charitable Remainder Trust
A charitable remainder trust allows a donor to make a gift to the OIOC and at the same time, retain income from the asset that is contributed.

Charitable Lead Trust
Income generated from assets placed in a charitable lead trust is paid to the OIOC for a period of years. Once that period is exceeded, the assets can be distributed to designated beneficiaries.

Life Income Trusts
Your will can also create a trust that will pay income to surviving spouses, with the principal eventually going to the OIOC. The trust can save estate taxes, increase income for surviving family members and eventually benefit the OIOC.

Bequests
Including the OIOC in your will allows you to help provide for the future of the OIOC. In addition, the amount of the bequest is deducted from the taxable portion of your estate.

Matching Gifts
Many employers will match the contributions that their employees make, enabling your contribution to the OIOC to be doubled or even tripled. Please check with your personnel department to obtain more information about your company's matching gift policy to submit with your contribution.
